These overlays are still removable like dentures with biocompatible titanium implants placed in the jawbone or remaining teeth. This makes for less slippage affecting speech or bite alignment that traditional dentures had and has the added benefit of reducing bone-loss; a benefit not seen in traditional dentures.
Furthermore, many, many advances have been made in the materials used in dentures that have added to enhanced comfort and flexibility. Incorporating acrylic resins, incorporating nylon for enhanced flexibility in dentures, and biocompatible materials have enhanced the longevity of dentures and, very importantly, comfort and ease of use for function and aesthetics of modern dentures.
